UJ 20th: A Celebration of Growth, Knowledge, and Development in My Personal Life.

UJ’S SETTING OUT ON CAREER MILESTONES. 

I'm Sinesipho Jiba currently second year of a diploma in Public Relations and Communications. I will be reflecting on how UJ has contributed in my personal growth.The University of Johannesburg (UJ) nicknamed Orange Army was established on 1 January 2005 at Johannesburg in South Africa and has four campuses named Auckland Park Kingsway (APK), Auckland Park Bunting (APB), Doornfontein (DFC), AND Soweto campus (SWC). UJ has grown into a diverse university with over 50 000 students, which include international students from different countries. This makes UJ to be one of the best universities as it stands in the top 5 among the 26 state universities. This inspired me to be part of UJ at the faculty of humanities at APB.  

THE IMPACT OF UJ THROUGH MY QUALIFICATION JOURNEY. 

UJ has been helpful since day I became part of the Orange Amry students, through their program of helping undergraduates by offerings orientations through their four main campuses. These program are implemented to the undergraduate to quickly adapt to the environment of UJ. During orientation they teach us how to use computers at the UJ library and where our classes are located to avoid being confused when it's time for classes to start. UJ hosted events such as Res Culture to help us learn about Res and University life, which include Mountain climbing.These programs by UJ help me to quickly adapt to environment and learning tactics applied at UJ.

THE UNPREDICTABLE MOMENTS AT UJ 

After 2 weeks at UJ we were giving our first activity to write, print and submit early in the morning. There was me who thought you write on paper and submit instead of printing. All of sudden things changed when I got into lecture hall and other students informed me that I’m supposed to print the documents instead of submitting a written paper. First, I thought they were joking until a lecturer told me he does not take written paper. I quickly went to the library to print out the documents, but another issue occurred because I forgot how we use computers to print. Then I got assist from UJ staff at library to print but it was already too late for me to submit. I was so stressed that day because I felt as if I was not serious since I had the first activity to submit but I was not able to submit which means I will fail. 

THE DEVELOPMENT MOVEMENTS OF UJ 

The University of Johannesburg actively engages with communities through various initiatives that address development needs and promote social justice. They formed Community Engagement (CE) which host various institutional projects and programme throughout the year. I also took part in these projects since I am inspired to bring changes to the communities. The CE has helped me to have personal growth because since I participated in CE I adopted some skills such as leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. UNIVERSTY OF JOHANNESBURG ACHIVMENTS IN FACULTIES AND SPORTS. 

Throughout these 20 years it has been making a name for itself globally because it has been ranked number 1 in the faculty of Hospitality and number 6 internationally. UJ is determined to make equality in sports and creating opportunities to the students. UJ made sure we stayed entertained by forming an internal league for both men’s and women’s at netball, basketball, soccer and many more. The internal league has helped me to refresh my mind by playing soccer instead of being always stressed by my studies. Through these programs formed by UJ they have help UJ to shine in sports as both men’s women’s football club have won varsity cup. Varsity Cup history . THE UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG HOPE FOR THE FUTURE. 

Through my experience at UJ I highly believe that this university will continue being successful across the globe as they are determined to create a sustainable future.
